Set safe combination lock
Setting the safe combination lock: step by step
After purchasing a safe, you must change the code. You should ensure that no one knows the numerical combination except you. When purchased new, the code is set to factory settings. These factory settings are the same for all safes and are therefore absolutely not secure. Even if you purchase a used safe, the combination lock must be set correctly. With our combination locks, we provide the customer with two different codes: the user code and the super code. The user code is for daily use, and the super code acts as a backup. Both codes can be set directly on the safe's combination lock.
Setting the combination lock
When first purchasing a safe, it can be opened using the factory code. For our Stellar locks, the code is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Before entering the number combination, press the *-key, then enter the code and confirm with the *-key. You will also need this code to change the code.
Setting the user code:
- Press the *-key for 3 seconds until you hear 3 acoustic signals
- Enter the current code (factory setting: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)
- Enter your desired 6-digit code
- Repeat your desired code
- Confirm the change with the *-key
Done! Your combination has now been changed to your personal setting. Next, you should change the super code. This serves as a backup in an emergency should you ever forget your user code.
Setting the super code:
- Press the *-key for 3 seconds until three acoustic signals are heard
- Enter the current 6-digit user code
- Now enter your 7-digit super code
- Repeat it
- Confirm the change with the *-key
Done! Your super code has now been changed. To open your safe with the super code, you must first press and hold the *-key for 6 seconds. Three acoustic signals will confirm the mode.
Saving the super code
The super code is a backup code in case the user code is forgotten. It is similar to a SIM card: you have a PIN to unlock your SIM card. If you forget it, you can use the PUK. The super code is, so to speak, the PUK for your safe. Since the super code is rarely, if ever, used, it is important not to forget it. Especially with safes that can only be opened via a combination lock, losing it would be fatal. If both codes are lost, usually only a forced opening by our experts can help. You should therefore write down this super code somewhere. It goes without saying that a note like "Super code for safe in office: 3456789" is not secure. We recommend a hidden description. Forms and media that already contain many numbers are suitable for this. Here is some inspiration:
- A contact in your phone. Perhaps with a prefix if more characters are needed.
- In a household finance spreadsheet
- Marking fields on an old lottery ticket
- As the birth date of an imaginary person (not in your kitchen calendar!)
Changing the combination lock code
You can reset the safe's combination lock at any time. To do this, follow the steps described above and in the video. Instead of the factory code, enter the current code. Your lock can be opened with any combination of numbers. Always use a new combination to open your lock. We recommend changing the combination every year if the safe is used frequently and different people have access to it. You can also store different user codes in the lock so that each user has their own combination. Please refer to the operating manual for this. Did you know that a safe's combination lock can also be combined with a double-bit lock? With this combination, you have a numeric code for daily use and a key. The key can be stored as a backup in a different building.
