What does Class 1 according to EN 1143 mean?

A Class 1 gun safe is tested and certified according to the regulations of EN 1143-1. These regulations and certifications correspond to burglary protection. Since the aim is to prevent break-ins and thus unauthorized access to weapons, the safety levels according to EN 1143-1 apply to both safes and gun safes. To determine a burglary protection class, the resistance grade is determined through tests by the ECB-S (European Certification Board Security Systems) or the VdS (independent testing institute VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH). Based on this grade, a VdS class or gun safe class can be defined that offers reliable protection. Furthermore, the resistance grade is decisive for the insured value of the valuables stored in a VdS 1 gun safe. If it has a resistance grade of 1, items worth 65,000 EUR (private use) and 20,000 EUR (commercial use) can be insured in it.

Fire protection for a Class 1 gun safe can also be tested and certified. Certified fire protection requires high thermal requirements. To successfully pass a fire protection test, the gun safe must withstand a fire with resistance grade 1 and must not show increased temperatures inside to prevent the destruction of weapons or the ignition of black powder. The right size

Since the weight (in kg) does not matter for a Class 1 gun safe according to EN 1143-1, the right size (internal and external dimensions in height x width x depth) depends solely on your needs. Important questions for you as a gun owner before deciding on a model include, for example:

• Do you need a handgun safe or a long gun safe? This answer refers to the required vertical clearance.
• How many weapon holders, i.e., long gun holders and handgun holders, would you like in your Class 1 gun safe?
• Also, ask yourself regarding your new Class 1 gun safe: What can go inside? Which weapons, ammunition, or accessories would you like to store together in the safe?
• Also consider how many weapons you want to store, depending on your collection and the number of available holders.
• What else would you like to protect securely from burglary and fire?

Choose your Class 1 gun safe based on your personal answers. In this way, the interior of your safe (internal dimensions h x w x d or volume) can be further customized:

• Adjustable shelves
• Storage compartments in the door
• Hook rails
• Space for folders

Typical models offer, for example, one or more shelves (height-adjustable or removable) as well as a shelf section about 150 mm wide with up to three shelves. The maximum vertical clearance of approx. 1,200 to 1,240 mm for long guns is also available in many models. You can also equip your safe with a lockable interior compartment, which provides you with an additional locking option and extra protection for valuables. You are also free to install a partition wall to create a shelf section for additional storage space. This allows you to conveniently deposit ammunition or other items on one side of the Class 1 gun safe, while your long guns stand on the other side. The color of the safe can also be adapted to your needs: Choose between light gray and graphite gray.

Locking the Class 1 gun safe correctly

As a gun owner, you are responsible for compliant storage. In addition to sufficient security provided by the body and door of your gun safe, you must also ensure conscientious locking. No one other than you may have access to the safe. You must therefore ensure the safekeeping of the key. As a rule, we supply our safes with a double-bit high-security lock (key length up to 170 mm). If this is too risky, you have the option of switching to a keyless lock. The following lock variants are available to you:

• Electronic lock with numeric code
• Key as a double-bit variant
• Combination lock with emergency key
• RFID lock

Additionally, we also offer other types of safe locks such as high-quality electronic combination locks with a freely selectable code and a super code for emergencies. Alternatively, the Kaba Mauer lock is available, a combined system with electronic control and a concealed double-bit lock for emergency opening, VdS Class 2 certified.

Pricing and shipping

All prices include statutory VAT. The stated prices for the Class 1 gun safe apply ex works and may vary depending on size, resistance grade (e.g., EN 1143-1 grade 0 or 1), and equipment, such as electronic lock, double-bit lock, interior compartment, or paint finish. Discounts are regularly granted in the context of promotions, special offers, or tiered pricing, for example for authorities, clubs, or dealers. For larger orders or projects, individual offers can be prepared.

Delivery and installation are carried out by a specialized freight forwarder within Germany and Austria. Standard delivery is to the curb; upon request, installation at the site is also available. The delivery time for a Class 1 gun safe is one to six weeks, depending on the model. Costs depend on size, weight, and destination. All shipping prices include VAT.
