What is a vault door used for?
A vault door offers you the possibility to turn a room into a vault. The use of vault doors makes sense when the mass or size of the items to be stored does not allow for the use of a standard safe.
Depending on the size of the room, valuables, weapons, explosives, or important business documents can be accommodated. Thus, a vault door replaces standard safes, gun cabinets, or document safes. Our vault doors are available in various VdS classes according to EN 1143-1. All feature fire protection. The vault doors are designed for standard wall thicknesses of 300 mm and can be concreted in or bolted. If you need a vault door with special dimensions or features, please feel free to contact us personally. At the Bremer Tresor factory, we can easily implement the requirements for your vault door.
Three important points for your purchase
Before purchasing a vault door, you should consider three points that are crucial to your buying decision. Firstly, the correct resistance grade according to EN 1143-1 and suitable fire protection are important. Secondly, the correct installation and the right configuration of your vault door play a major role.
1. The correct resistance grade and fire protection level
Choosing the right resistance grade and the correct fire protection is very important when buying a vault door, as a subsequent upgrade involves considerable effort. If, in the future, the value of the contents exceeds the insurance value of the VdS class, adjustments must be made either provisionally (e.g., through an additional safe) or at great expense (by replacing the door). Therefore, think in advance about values that your vault room might contain in perhaps ten years.
We offer a security door with safety level S2, which provides light protection. The Minos model series vault doors are extensively tested according to ECB-S and VdS standards under EN 1143-1. Minos is available in three different versions: Class 1, Class 3, and Class 5, depending on the insurance value.
The Minos model series additionally offers LFS 30 P fire protection, which guarantees fire resistance for 30 minutes. LFS 30 P fire protection is certified after tests under real fire conditions. The doors also withstand longer fire durations. It should be noted that vault doors should be concreted in for fire protection to prevent flames from penetrating.
Once you have decided on a security level, you can select a model and choose the correct size as well as the appropriate accessories.
2. The installation environment
For your door to be installed without problems by your mason, it is important that the installation-specific dimensions fit. Our vault doors feature a block frame adapted to 300 mm walls. These dimensions can also be customized. The frame shape can also be varied. Contact us if needed.
You should also consider the wall material, as these will be part of your vault in the future. Concrete, brick, or limestone are well-suited. Not suitable, however, are glass concrete, pumice stone, or glass blocks. In a new building, it is advisable to make the walls thicker and more solid. Ask your builder about materials suitable for a vault room.
To guarantee fire protection, we strongly advise against merely anchoring your vault door and recommend concreting it in instead. The door frame can also be anchored additionally after concreting. Consult your construction expert. Depending on the model, the door threshold is approx. 30 to 70 mm. Ideally, this can be integrated into the floor during concreting to avoid tripping hazards.
3. The correct opening mechanism
After you have made your choice regarding the correct resistance grade and dimensions, you should now consider the appropriate equipment. Since these vaults can be walked into, expanded safety should be considered so that no one is accidentally locked inside the vault.
You have the option of integrating a blocking lock. Once activated from the inside, this prevents the safe from being locked from the outside. This function is particularly important if several people have access to the vault room. A second handle can also be installed, which allows the lock to be opened from both sides. This function is useful if it should be possible to lock oneself in, for example in a laboratory or a secure room. This locking system is an electronic lock with a keypad on both the outside and inside.
