Safe with RFID lock: open with a card instead of a code

An RFID lock unlocks the safe contactlessly via a card or a transponder. There is no code to be typed in and no key that needs to be stored somewhere. That sounds convenient at first, but the real advantage lies elsewhere: a code is either known to everyone, or it has to be shared. A card belongs to one specific person.

This turns the access question into an organizational one. Every authorized person receives their own medium, lost cards are deleted, and the lock records who opened it. If only one single person needs access to the safe, a safe with a combination lock is the simpler and cheaper choice.

Where the card pays off in everyday life

The majority of our RFID-capable models are narcotics safes, and that is no coincidence. In pharmacies, medical practices, on hospital wards, in nursing homes, and in laboratories, several people need to access the same container during shift work, and it must remain traceable who opened it and when. A numerical code does neither: it is passed around, and it says nothing about who used it.

The same applies wherever staff changes occur. If someone leaves, their card is deleted. The safe does not need to be reprogrammed, and a new code does not need to be distributed to everyone. You can find the models for this application gathered under Narcotics Safes.

Which models offer the RFID lock

For us, RFID is not a separate product line, but a lock option. It can be selected for 39 models across six series, not the entire range. All of these models carry a resistance grade according to EN 1143-1.

INSYS EloStar flexID

This lock is installed on the models in this category. It unlocks contactlessly via a card or transponder and is certified by the testing institutes VdS and ECB-S.

Surcharge and selection

The RFID lock costs an additional 419.33 euros compared to the standard version. You make the selection on the product page of your chosen model under the "Lock" point; a separate item is not necessary for this.

The lock provides several features that make a difference in operation: multiple users can be created, the opening log can be retrieved, a low battery is announced in advance, an emergency power supply from the outside is provided, and connection to an intruder alarm system is possible. If such a system is available, a silent alarm can also be triggered via it.

What you should know for daily use

If a card is lost, it is deleted in the lock, while all others retain their authorization. Further cards can be registered subsequently. If the battery is dead, emergency power is supplied from the outside and the safe opens as usual; the registered media remain stored.
