What types of safes are there?
All three safes are very well suited for this task. We would therefore like to briefly introduce you to the advantages of each safe. If you would like to buy a safe, this overview will help you find the right model:
- Security safe: We offer security safes in numerous sizes and with various interior fittings. They allow for the secure storage of various valuables such as jewelry, watches, or high-quality electronics, as well as important documents.
- Wall safe: Due to its compactness, this safe is easy to hide. It is rarely installed subsequently, but is instead planned for during renovations or new constructions. Its low weight (under 200 kg) makes professional anchoring into the wall necessary.
- Document safe: These safes are primarily manufactured for documents and folders and offer you many options for organizing your paperwork (DIN A4 dimensions). They reliably protect confidential papers from burglary and fire.
Questions on choosing a safe
Before you choose a safe, the fundamental requirements for security and usage should be clearly defined. The following questions help to realistically assess your needs:
- What do you want to protect, today and in the coming years?
- What are your valuables to be protected against (burglary, fire, heat)?
- Where will the safe be placed (external dimensions and volume in liters)?
- How many shelves are required and should they be adjustable?
Feel free to plan for a little extra space so that you don't need a new safe in a few years.
Safe: Security levels and fire protection at a glance
At Bremer Tresor, you have a large selection of suitable safes in various security levels, from security levels S1 and S2 according to EN 14450 to resistance grades 0 to 5 according to EN 1143-1. The higher the selected security level, the higher the burglary protection.
| Resistance grade | Private use | Commercial use |
|---|---|---|
| N/0 (EN 1143-1) | up to €40,000 | up to €10,000 |
| Resistance grade 1 (EN 1143-1) | up to €65,000 | up to €20,000 |
Speak with your insurer about the necessary coverage amount, as this dictates the required security level. Since you often also store papers or electronics, we recommend integrated fire protection according to EN 1047-1 or EN 15659.
Security locks for safes
Our safes are equipped as standard with a high-quality double-bit key lock. If a larger group of people needs access, we recommend an electronic combination lock:
- High-quality electronic combination lock: Can be opened with a 6-digit code or 7-digit super code (emergency). Any number of codes can be set.
- Electronic combination lock with revision/emergency opening: The code can be changed as often as desired. In the event of failure (vandalism, loss of code, or fire), the safe can be opened with a key.
- Kaba-Mauer lock: The highest quality model with VdS Class 2 certification. Offers additional functions such as wrong-code lockout, silent alarm, and dual-custody opening principle.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
No, it is the older name for the same item. The tested grade is what matters, not the designation.
The name comes from a time when businesses primarily secured cash. Today, jewelry, documents, and data media are just as likely to be stored there.
That depends on the value of the contents and your insurance policy. The insurance industry’s guide values increase significantly with each resistance grade.
