Safe Dehumidifier: Protection against moisture in the safe
When do you need a safe dehumidifier?
There are two main conditions under which a safe dehumidifier is strongly recommended: poor air circulation and temperature fluctuations inside or around the safe. Both can lead to the formation of moisture and consequently to rust, mold, or unpleasant odors.
Poor air circulation
There is naturally hardly any air movement in safes because they are sealed airtight. As a result, moisture can accumulate over time, especially if documents, textiles, or other moisture-retaining materials are stored inside. This moisture promotes the development of rust, mold, mildew, and odors. A safe dehumidifier is therefore the ideal solution for keeping the interior climate permanently dry and protecting your valuables.
A corrosion process can begin after just a few hours in a damp environment: atmospheric oxygen combined with water triggers chemical reactions that damage metals and surfaces. An effective dehumidifier reliably stops this process.
Temperature differences and fluctuations
Temperature fluctuations between the interior and the environment of the safe, for example in unheated rooms, basements, or garages, lead to the formation of condensation. This moisture settles on the cold interior surfaces and can cause rust, foxing, and signs of corrosion.
A silica gel-based safe dehumidifier continuously removes moisture from the air, even before condensation can form. This keeps the interior of the safe dry, and your documents, jewelry, data media, or weapons are permanently protected; the only thing absorbing moisture is the active granulate in the dehumidifier.
Regeneration of the safe dehumidifier
The safe dehumidifier can indicate the current state of its function. If the dot in the center is blue, moisture is currently being absorbed. However, if the dot is pink, it must be dried.
Your safe dehumidifier from Bremer Tresor can be easily regenerated and reused after absorbing moisture. To do this, it is dried either in an oven, microwave, or on a heater.
For oven drying, place the dehumidifier on a rack at medium height and set the temperature to about 150 °C for 1 hour. Higher temperatures should be avoided as they could damage the pouch fabric, but there is no fire hazard. For use in the microwave, place the pouch inside for 6 minutes at 600 watts.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
The silica gel granulate draws moisture from the air inside the safe and binds it until it is saturated. It works purely passively, without electricity and without chemicals, and keeps the relative humidity below 60 percent.
Between 2 and 6 months, depending on the temperature and humidity at the location. The color indicator shows the status: blue means dry, pink means it needs to be regenerated.
In the oven at 150 degrees Celsius for about an hour on the middle rack, or in the microwave for 6 minutes at 600 watts. This can be repeated as often as desired, so the dehumidifier is not a consumable.
Two are better in practice. While one is being regenerated, the other continues to work in the safe, so the protection is not interrupted for hours.
Size S for smaller interiors, size L for large standing safes and cabinets. For very large volumes, it is better to distribute several units instead of using one large one. In case of doubt, let us know your model.
Wherever the temperature fluctuates: basements, garages, unheated ancillary rooms, or exterior walls. The more tightly the safe closes, the less the air is exchanged and the more worthwhile the granulate becomes.
Paper ripples and develops foxing, silver and bare metal surfaces tarnish, electronics and data carriers corrode at the contacts, leather gets moldy. This usually only becomes visible once the damage has been occurring for a while.
No. Silica gel does not release anything
