Key tags: turning a bunch into an organized system
Keys look alike. That is exactly where most everyday key management fails: the hook is there, but the identification is missing. Colored tags solve this with the simplest means available. One color per building, department, or vehicle, and the assignment can be seen at a glance, without anyone having to read anything.
Our tags come in a pack of ten in five colors: black, red, yellow, green, and blue. This allows five groups to be neatly separated, and those who need more can combine color and number.
How to create a lasting color scheme
A system only works if someone writes it down. Define what each color stands for and keep that information where the keys are hanging. Three patterns have proven effective:
- By building or location, when multiple properties are managed.
- By department or area, when a building is managed with multiple responsibilities.
- By urgency, for example, red for keys that are needed in an emergency and therefore must never leave the building.
Combined with numbered hooks on the key board or a hook rail, this creates a management system where a missing key is immediately noticeable.

Only with a number that can be deciphered internally. An address or room number should not be on the tag, otherwise a lost key provides the instructions along with it.
