Safes for the retail sector: deposit instead of open

In a retail store, cash accumulates throughout the day, and the till is usually located where customers are. A safe in the sales area only half-solves the problem: anyone who has to open it to deposit cash opens it several times a day, often within sight of others.

The solution is a deposit safe with a drop slot. Receipts are deposited via a drawer or slot without the safe having to be opened. Those making a deposit cannot remove anything, and this also applies to temporary staff, evening shifts, and times when management is not on the premises.

Selection

Which safe is right for which business

  • Deposit safe with drop slot for daily cash reconciliation. Tested according to EN 1143-2, which is the standard for deposit safes, it also tests the deposit mechanism against fishing attempts.
  • Security safe for businesses that keep higher amounts or valuable goods overnight, such as jewelry, watches, or electronics. Here, the resistance grade counts, because it determines the recognized insurance coverage.
  • Key safe for branch keys, emergency access, and locker keys, especially when multiple people need access.
Deposit safe with deposit drawer in the back office of a fashion store, view of the sales floor
Deposit safe in the back office, anchored and out of the customers' sight. Deposits are made via the drawer; opening only occurs for collection.
i
Location: in the back, not the frontA safe does not belong in the sales area, but in the back office or storage room. It is out of sight there, yet the path for making a deposit remains short. Anchoring is important: models under 1,000 kilograms must be fastened, otherwise the insurance coverage is void.

What else retailers should watch out for

Multiple people, one safe
An electronic combination lock allows for multiple user codes. This gives every shift its own code, and a departing employee does not necessitate a key exchange.
Documenting cash reconciliation
Models with an opening log record who opened the safe and when. This clears up ambiguity for all parties in the event of a dispute.
Equipping branches uniformly
Those operating multiple locations are better off with a uniform model: same operation, same spare parts, one contact person. We deliver throughout Germany and coordinate schedules.
Delivery to the shop premises
We deliver to the point of use and anchor on-site, even on upper floors and in shopping arcades. An existing safe can be removed during the same appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Why a deposit safe and not a standard safe?
Because several people make deposits in the shop, but only a few should have access. With a deposit safe, money travels through a slot into the interior without the door being opened.
Can the contents be fished out of the deposit slot?
Not with tested models. They have an anti-fishing device in the slot that prevents exactly that. We pay attention to this design during selection.
How much cash is allowed to be kept in the shop?
This is determined by your insurance policy, tiered according to the tested grade of the safe. The insurance industry’s standard values increase with the resistance grade according to EN 1143-1.
Where should the safe be located?
Not in the sales area, but in the back office or storage room. A stable surface and firm anchoring are important so that the safe cannot be taken away in its entirety.
Is a time lock worth it?
Where there is a risk of robbery, yes. A time lock delays opening and thus removes the incentive to force someone to unlock it.
