A document cabinet also features fire protection. This is particularly important for essential documents. Should a fire occur, the records will still be available afterward.

Areas of application
Data protection plays a major role in Germany. What applies to digital data also applies to paper-based data, for which a document safe is recommended.
Legislation dictates that companies must securely store important business documents and papers, such as tax records, balance sheets, or contracts. Reading between the lines reveals that the use of a business safe, document safe, or data safe is indirectly required, representing a fundamental prerequisite for the maintenance of data and documents. In addition, you must not forget the documents relating to the "internal administration" of the business, such as articles of association, loan documents, management resolutions, employment contracts, payroll records, works agreements, etc.; in the worst-case scenario, loss of these documents can lead to fines, compulsory assessment by the tax office, and/or the loss of tax benefits.
Security through document safes
Document safes from Bremer Tresor offer high-quality protection against unauthorized access and fire. Quality is the top priority at Bremer Tresor. We have all our safes tested by official testing institutes to obtain external confirmation of our quality. Upon passing these tests, a certificate is issued, which is displayed on the inside of the door of every document safe.
Document safes are excellent all-rounders. Usage in an office or at home requires a certain level of burglary protection to prevent unauthorized individuals from gaining access to sensitive data. Fire protection is also important for document safes, as business documents can be destroyed by fire in seconds. With our dual-certified document safes, you can feel secure regarding both protection requirements.
Certified burglary protection
Certified burglary protection requires a robust construction. During the certification tests, the document safe is examined for forced entry by a specialized team. Depending on the effort required to break into it, this team classifies the safes into different security levels. The higher the security level, the higher the resistance grade of the document safe.
The tests are conducted according to strict guidelines and are defined by the European standards EN 1143-1 and EN 14450. The certifications and classifications are carried out by official ECB-S and VdS testing institutes. Through the official classification into a security level according to EN 1143-1 or EN 14450, you also have the option of insuring valuables in your safe.
- Security levels according to EN 14450: Security levels according to EN 14450 are classified as S1 and S2 and belong to the security cabinet classifications. These security levels can only be minimally insured commercially (up to €2,500), but they already offer good burglary protection. If your focus is on securing documents and protection against fire, then an S2-rated document safe is sufficient.
- Security levels according to EN 1143-1: Security levels according to EN 1143-1 are the classes for high-security safes (value protection safes). High-security safes are more robust and are built for security against burglary to protect valuables. We also have document safes with these security levels. This increases the security of your document safe and, furthermore, gives you the option of insuring commercial valuables inside it. For example, a document safe from the Janus series with a resistance grade of N/0 offers an insurance value of €10,000.00. If you require a combination model of a high-security safe and a document safe, choose a suitable high-security safe with the corresponding fire protection.
Certified fire protection
Fire protection for a document safe is indispensable, as fire is the archenemy of paper. With a fireproof document safe, you can be certain that your safe will withstand a fire. A fire in a private home or a company is already a very dramatic scenario. If important documents and data are missing after a fire, reconstruction is very difficult or impossible.
For trustworthy fire protection, be sure to look for an official certification that indicates a fire protection class. There are 2 different standards according to which fire protection tests for document safes are carried out. Firstly, there is EN 15659, which is used for light fire safety testing. In this test, the safes are placed in a fire chamber for a certain period, during which the interior must neither catch fire nor exceed a certain temperature. You can find this light fire protection in our range under LFS 30 P, which denotes the official class. The fire test was carried out for 30 minutes, certifying light fire protection.
For higher fire protection, we have our safes tested according to EN 1047-1. We have these tests carried out by the ECB-S and VdS for 60 or even 120 minutes. This standard tests safes for excellent fire safety. The safes must not only withstand the fire and temperatures but also survive mechanical tests in a heated state. To simulate a floor collapse, the safe is dropped from a height of over 9 meters. Even after this drop, the fire safety and the functionality of the safe must remain intact.
With a medium or high fire protection certificate, your document safe has the S60P or S120P certification and is tested for 60 or 120 minutes.
A variation of this certification is the S60DIS and S120DIS according to EN 1047-1. These are synonymous with S60P and S120P, with the difference that these certifications apply to the fire safety of data carriers. The difference between data carriers and paper is that data carriers can be damaged at elevated temperatures. Therefore, to achieve this certification, an internal temperature increase of more than 30 °C is not permitted.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Certificates, contracts, personnel files, accounting records, and anything that is needed in the original and cannot be easily replaced.
With paper, fire is usually a greater risk than theft. Tested fire protection for paper is therefore generally the more important feature.
This is stated in the product data for each model. A standard lever arch file requires about eight centimeters of width, which determines the necessary internal width per shelf.
