Safes for cash in private and commercial settings: Protection begins with quality
The safest place to store cash and valuables is a bank safety deposit box. Alternatively, and suitable for the home, there are fireproof money safes. They are suitable for freestanding use in a room or securely anchored to the floor for the safe storage of cash.
Note: There are safes in various safe security levels or resistance grades, which relate to the burglary protection as well as the fire protection of the respective money safe. The terms protection class and VdS class are used as synonyms for the tested resistance grade. VdS is short for "Verband der Sachversicherer" (German Insurance Association).
The protection class is used when determining an insurance sum for the safe's contents. You also need the security levels for the purchase in order to assess the security of the safe, because the products look very similar visually. We have organized the safes by certification so that you can find exactly what you are looking for.
We put our experience as a manufacturer of high-quality safes and our expertise in security solutions, asset protection, and data protection into our product series. With a money safe from Bremer Tresor, you can keep things worth protecting safe from theft, destruction, and fire.
With our safe finder, you can find the money safe that best suits your requirements and the respective installation location in just a few steps. You determine the following features yourself when ordering:
- Resistance grade or security level
- Fire resistance (for certain models)
- Size
- Lock type (e.g., double-bit key lock, combination lock, Kaba-Mauer lock)
- Color
Money safe: Fireproof with resistance grade and fire protection class
The safes from Bremer Tresor that are explicitly designated as fireproof safes undergo a fire safety test according to EN 1047-1 (S 60 P, S 120 P, S 60 DIS, S 120 DIS) or according to EN 15659 (LFS 30 P, LFS 60 P). Subsequently, the product receives certification from official testing bodies and is assigned one of three fire resistance classes.
Choosing the right lock also plays a central role. At Bremer Tresor, you can choose between double-bit key locks, electronic combination locks, and Kaba-Mauer locks. Double-bit key locks are considered very robust and mechanically reliable, while electronic combination locks allow for more flexible operation and multi-user access. Kaba-Mauer locks offer the highest security standards and are particularly valued in commercial areas.
To ensure mechanical burglary protection, a safe is subjected to a break-in test and assigned to the following categories:
- the resistance grades from N/0 to 5 according to
EN 1143-1and - the security level S1 or S2 according to
EN 14450.
Below, we will go into more detail about various money safes and product series, starting with the most resistant and heaviest safes of protection class 3, 4 & 5 with (optional) fire protection, down to the small and affordable models of resistance grades 2 and 3 without fire protection.
Buying and installing a money safe correctly: Consider location and installation
A safe for cash only reaches its full potential when installed correctly. Lighter models must be anchored, as they can otherwise be easily removed. Bremer Tresor offers furniture safes and wall safes that can be optimally integrated into your existing structure while providing protection against unauthorized access.
The choice of location is decisive for the effectiveness of a money safe. Ideally, the safe is installed in an inconspicuous yet accessible place, for example in a study or a closed cupboard. In commercial premises, a highly visible but difficult-to-access location also makes sense to deter potential perpetrators.
Money safes instead of hiding places: Avoid insecure alternatives
Hiding or burying cash is not a secure method of storage. Even the most creative hiding places, such as fake books, freezers, or basement panels, offer no serious protection. In the event of fire or water damage, such solutions are completely useless. A certified money safe, on the other hand, reliably protects against fire, burglary, and loss.
Money safe models with fire protection: Kronos, Hektor, and Apoll
You can find particularly heavy safes at Bremer Tresor, which you can have equipped with 30 minutes of fire protection when ordering, in security levels or resistance grades 3, 4, and 5 according to EN 1143-1.
With the Kronos, Hektor, and Apoll series, you get high-quality money safes that, thanks to their weight and construction, can offer both convincing burglary protection and fire protection.
Hektor?
The Hektor falls into the armored safe category. It corresponds to resistance grade 4 according to EN 1143-1 and can be insured for up to 400,000 euros privately and up to 150,000 euros commercially. It has a 30-minute fire resistance according to EN 15659.
A special feature is its two locks, which must be installed from resistance class 4 upwards: one above the opening handle and one below. For the top lock, you can choose between a double-bit key, combination, or Kaba-Mauer lock.
The bottom lock depends on the top lock. This means that if you have an electronic combination lock on the top, you can choose between a double-bit key lock and an electronic combination lock for the bottom locking mechanism. If you choose the Kaba-Mauer lock for the top, you can select this or a double-bit key lock for the bottom side.
- Hektor 60S with 306 kg weight
- Hektor 60 with 349 kg weight
Apoll?
The absolute premium model among the armored safes is the Apoll. It corresponds to security level or resistance grade 5 according to EN 1143-1 and has fire protection for 30 minutes, certified according to EN 15659. Accordingly, it can be insured privately for over 400,000 euros; here, the individual situation must be clarified with the insurance company. Commercially, it can be insured for up to 250,000 euros.
120 minutes of fire protection: Milu and Vulcanus?
In the mid-range segment, you will find money safes that correspond to resistance grade 1 or resistance grade 2 according to EN 1143-1. They also have 120 minutes of fire protection, which has been certified according to EN 1047-1. At Bremer Tresor, the Milu and Vulcanus series meet these criteria.
Milu?
The Milu series can impress with resistance grade 1 according to EN 1143-1. Thanks to this resistance as well as the 120-minute fire protection according to EN 1047-1, the safes can be insured privately or commercially for up to 65,000 euros or 20,000 euros, respectively. The following models are particularly suitable for use as a fireproof money safe:
Vulcanus?
The Vulcanus series has a certified resistance grade 2 according to EN 1143-1 as well as an impressive fire resistance of 2 hours, which has been tested and certified as S 120 P according to EN 1047-1. This corresponds to the highest level of fire protection combined with burglary protection. The safes can be insured for up to 100,000 euros in the private sector and up to 50,000 euros in the commercial sector accordingly.
- Vulcanus 55 with 240 kg weight
- Vulcanus 110 with 389 kg weight
Without fire protection: Linos and Elios?
If no fire protection is required, these are safes that only offer protection against break-ins. They correspond to resistance grades 2 and 3 and have fire-retardant properties. If the steel heats up in a fire, the cash in paper form inside will turn to ash. The Linos and Elios series belong to this category of money safe.
Linos?
Our Linos series corresponds to resistance grade 2 according to EN 1143-1. The models in various sizes can be insured privately up to 100,000 euros and commercially up to 50,000 euros. They have fire-retardant properties due to the materials from which they are made. The following Linos models are suitable for storing cash, but do not provide fire protection and are also easier to carry away due to their low weight, so anchoring is recommended:
Elios?
The Elios series includes compact money safes with resistance grade 3 according to EN 1143-1. It has fire-retardant properties, but no explicit fire protection. Due to its security level, it can be insured privately for up to 200,000 euros and commercially for up to 100,000 euros. The following models are suitable for use as a mini money safe:

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
A safe that has been tested according to EN 1143-1 and certified by an official testing body is definitely recommended. A resistance grade in the range of 1 to 5 should be met, and fire protection (depending on the contents of the safe) is also advisable, as cash and important documents would otherwise turn to ash in a fire.
Yes, a safe is useful if you store valuables at home or in the office, which is basically the case in every household. Documents such as passports and certificates can be stored securely in the safe, as can cash and jewelry, for which a level of fire protection (at least 30 minutes) should also be ensured. For the storage of weapons, a safe is not only useful but also legally required.
Important factors are burglary protection, i.e., the resistance grade according to EN 1143-1, and fire protection according to EN 1047-1, so that the contents are protected against theft and heat. Also important are the size, type of lock, installation location, weight, and potential anchoring.
