What is a high-security vault?
A high-security vault (also called a security room or strongroom) is a specially constructed room that serves as a large-scale safe. Its walls, ceiling, and floor consist of certified reinforced concrete elements with defined resistance grades according to EN 1143-1. Access is provided via a tested vault door, which has the same or a higher security grade.
High-security vaults are used in jewelry stores, banks, pharmacies, and logistics companies, but also in private homes or companies with sensitive data inventories. They can be used as a storage place for valuables, files, data media, or weapons.
Advantages of a high-security vault
- Maximum security: certified wall, ceiling, and floor elements according to EN 1143-1
- Available protection levels: burglary protection grades 1, 3, 5, and 7, individually selectable
- High level of fire protection: combined protection against heat and smoke development
- Flexible sizes: individually plannable, from small archive rooms to walk-in vault systems
- Customized equipment: shelving systems, climate control, alarm and monitoring technology
- Retrofit possible: can also be implemented in existing buildings with a modular design
Burglary protection according to EN 1143-1
High-security vaults are classified into various resistance grades according to the European standard EN 1143-1. At Bremer Tresor, these are available in classes Grade 1, 3, 5, and 7. The higher the resistance grade, the longer the room withstands mechanical and thermal break-in attempts.
This classification also forms the basis for the insurability of the stored assets: Depending on the security grade and room size, insurance coverage amounts ranging from several hundred thousand to several million euros can be realized.
Modular design and retrofitting of high-security vaults
Modern high-security vaults are built using modular element construction. Prefabricated wall, ceiling, and floor elements are assembled on-site and anchored together using special connection systems. This creates a seamless, solid room with maximum resistance.
This design also allows for retrofitting in existing buildings without extensive construction work. Thus, high-security vaults can be integrated, for example, in the basement, on the ground floor, or in separate annexes.
Special equipment and technology for high-security vaults
In addition to the basic construction, a high-security vault can be individually equipped. Common options include:
- Intrusion detection and alarm systems (VdS-certified)
- Climate control or dehumidification for file and data media storage
- Fire alarm and extinguishing systems
- Mechanical and electronic locking systems
- Video surveillance and access control
