Safe resistance grade 2: Certified according to EN 1143-1

What does safe resistance grade 2 mean?

A safe receives official certification according to EN 1143-1 when it has passed defined break-in tests conducted by official testing institutes ECB-S and VdS. To achieve resistance grade 2, a security cabinet must reach a resistance value of 50/80 RU (Resistance Unit) during tests according to EN 1143-1. This is defined by the duration of a break-in attempt by a professional team using specified tools. With the certified resistance grade 2, you have the option to insure valuables up to a value of €100,000.00 (for private use) in your security cabinet. For commercial use, the insured sum is €50,000.00.

Burglary and fire protection

In addition to certifications for burglary protection, there are also classes that verify the passing of a fire protection test. Consequently, fire protection levels LFS 30 P indicate light fire protection, levels S60P and S60DIS indicate medium fire protection, and levels S 120 P and S 120 DIS indicate heavy fire protection. You have the option to combine your safe with all of these fire protection levels. A safe with resistance grade 2 even passes a light fire protection test due to its compact design without any modifications.
If you are concerned with protecting technical equipment, choose a security cabinet with fire protection class S 60 DIS or S 120 DIS. This ensures a maximum internal temperature of 30° C so that data media do not suffer any damage. If your concerns do not involve technical equipment, fire protection levels S 60 P and S 120 P with a maximum temperature increase of 150° C are sufficient.

Dimensions and equipment of safes

Anchoring of safes

With a resistance grade 2 safe, you receive a high level of security that no intruder can break into your safe. To also prevent an unwanted removal, the ECB-S recommends professional anchoring of security safes if the weight is less than 1000 kg. You should coordinate this decision with your property insurer. Through our perfectly trained delivery team, the anchoring can be carried out directly by them.

A security cabinet with resistance grade 2 complies with the EN 1143-1 guidelines, which are defined by the ECB-S and tested by them, as well as by the VdS. Another class is that of security cabinets. This offers light burglary protection for private use. The guidelines according to EN 14450 apply to these safes. For certification according to EN 14450, quality tests similar to those for security cabinets are carried out. Outdated VDMA guidelines are also still widespread. These apply to security cabinets and must be built according to the VDMA 24992 guidelines.
