Fireproof safe: resistance against fire and burglary
Fireproof safes are available in many different designs and sizes. This type of safe is a standard safe that can offer protection against fire in addition to mechanical burglary protection. Depending on the conditions at the installation site and the respective requirements regarding fire protection, space, resistance grade, and features, a specific model or series will be particularly suitable for your needs.
With our safe finder, you can find the model that is right for you with just a few clicks.
EN 1047-1 (S60P, S120P, S60DIS, S120DIS) or EN 15659 (LFS30P, LFS60P) and have been certified accordingly by official certification bodies.Mechanical burglary protection, in turn, is tested in a break-in attempt and certified accordingly. Categorization is based on resistance grades from N/0 to 5 according to EN 1143-1. Security levels S1 and S2 correspond to EN 14450 and ensure that basic protection is provided.
The grades and levels are decisive for the sum for which safe contents can be insured. What the individual grades and levels mean is explained in the guide Safe Security Levels.
Fireproof safe: fire protection classes and certificates
If a room or building is in flames, it takes some time until it can be extinguished. During this time, a safe heats up to several hundred degrees, and consequently, the valuables inside are destroyed. At over 700 degrees inside the safe, paper turns to ash and data carriers are destroyed.
Three different protection classes with 30, 60, or 120 minutes of fire protection use high-quality insulation to keep heat development within limits. This ensures for a certain period of time that paper documents do not suffer damage and data carriers are not completely destroyed. The classes are tested according to EN 1047-1 and EN 15659.
According to EN 1047-1
At an outside temperature of 1090°C, the internal temperature rises by only 150°C (paper documents) or 30°C (data carriers) over a period of 60 or 120 minutes. A drop test from about 9 meters simulates the collapse of a floor during a house fire. Every series model must successfully pass these tests with two specimens each in order to be awarded the VdS seal (or ECB-S).
According to EN 15659
Fireproof safes are tested at a maximum temperature of 840°C or 940°C. They receive either the LFS30P certificate (30 minutes at 840°C) or LFS60P (60 minutes at 940°C). Safes with these fire protection classes are suitable for paper documents that can withstand heat up to 170°C.
Fireproof safe: small and large against flames
If you want to buy a fireproof safe, you should be clear about what is to be protected in the safe and how much space it must offer. The following items usually end up in a fireproof safe:
- Paper documents
- Folders and files
- Identification papers (passports, ID cards, etc.)
- Cash
- Gold
- Jewelry
- Data carriers
At Bremer Tresor, you also have the option to choose between different types of locks when placing your order. You can get your fireproof safe with:
- Electronic combination lock (also with emergency key)
- Double-bit lock
- Kaba Mauer lock
You can find out more about this in our guide on safe locks.
Based on your requirements for space, (fire) protection, and lock, choose one of the following models to be able to protect your possessions from flames in an emergency for 30, 60, or 90 minutes.
30 minutes
For a fireproof safe with 30 minutes of fire protection, choose a corresponding model from the Zelos or Lenus series.
Zelos
The Zelos is an all-rounder as a fire-protected document safe. It has 30 minutes of fire protection, complies with security level S1, and in its smallest version, the Zelos 50, offers space for 4 folders. The largest model, the Zelos 190, holds 35 folders on four shelves.
Lenus
The Lenus series contains three models in three sizes that fall into the category of fire-protected furniture safes and are therefore primarily used in the home or office for valuables and private documents.
Lenus 20S, Lenus 20, and Lenus 50 offer space for cash and jewelry as well as one folder (Lenus 20 & 50). They comply with security level S1 according to EN 14450.
60 minutes
You can find various models in different sizes in the category fireproof safe with 60 minutes of fire protection. Popular series are Artemis and Ajax.
Artemis

The smallest model is the Ajax 50 with space for 6 folders and a weight of 186 kg. The largest Ajax is the Ajax 190, which can hold up to 50 folders and weighs 713 kg. It can be insured privately for up to 100,000 euros, commercially for up to 50,000 euros.
120 minutes
A safe, fireproof for 120 minutes, corresponds to the strongest fire protection among fireproof safes. For over two hours, they are exposed to over 1000°C in a fire chamber. The Talos and Milu series are particularly popular.
Talos
The Talos fireproof safe complies with security level S2 according to EN 14450 and fire protection level S120P according to EN 1047-1. The smallest model, the Talos 50 offers space for 3 folders and can be insured privately for up to 20,000 euros. Commercial use is not recommended.
