Key safe test: Security levels and resistance grades

A key safe is a safe designed to accommodate a certain number of keys in an organized manner. Just like other safes, such as gun safes or security safes, key safes are also categorized into security levels according to EN 14450 or resistance grades according to EN 1143-1. This means that they, too, are subjected to break-in tests. Depending on the effort required and the tools used, the safe is assigned to a specific protection class.

The key safes in the Bremer Tresor range comply with resistance grade 1 or security level S1 or S2. Security, space, handling, and the location of installation determine which key safe is suitable for your individual requirements.

The field of application for key safes is broad: especially in the commercial sector, there are many situations that require secure storage as well as regulated access. However, a key safe can also be a good investment in smaller, private settings.

All Bremer Tresor models offer a degree of flexibility, as key panels feature adjustable or movable hook rails. This allows you to create the organization you desire.

For commercial use

Especially in hotels, car rental services, car dealerships, government agencies, and other facilities, there may be hundreds of keys in circulation. To prevent chaos, these must be kept in a central location. Furthermore, not everyone should automatically have access to all keys. Accordingly, companies often have their own key safes or document safes for departments and specific responsibilities. For example, one department may be able to open all relevant cabinets in accounting, but not the utility room.

For such requirements, our Themis, Tavo, Javes, and Cavas series are particularly suitable:

• The Themis series complies with security level 1 according to EN 1143-1 and offers space for 270 to 5,000 keys. The Themis 5040, for instance, weighs 800 kilograms, can be anchored to the floor, and can be insured for commercial (and private) use.
• The Tavo series is particularly suitable for commercial use. Thanks to resistance grade 1 according to EN 1143-1, the safe can also be insured commercially for up to 20,000 euros.
• The Cavas series is an excellent choice for car dealerships and car rental agencies, as the models are designed for the storage of car keys and comply with resistance grade 1 according to EN 1143-1. The Cavas 190 accommodates 192 car keys. This key safe can also be insured for commercial and private use.

Key safe: for outdoor and indoor use

As a holiday home landlord, you may need a way to grant others access to keys without having to be present.

Whether it's family and friends who need access to the house, or service providers who need one-time access to the garage – this is not a problem with a key safe. If it has a combination lock – an option you have with almost every model at Bremer Tresor – then third parties only need this code. This can be reset if necessary using the Master Lock Key.

Key safe as a distribution system

Key safes that offer the option of being installed outdoors are a sensible purchase for various businesses such as car rental companies or workshops. On one hand, the safe can always be opened by authorized persons using the Master Lock Key (numeric code). Customers, in turn, receive 4-digit numeric codes that become invalid after a single use.

Various models with a deposit slot – known as deposit safes – are ideal if, for example, guests want to check out and cannot hand the key to a person. Especially when an apartment has been rented via Airbnb, a secure storage option for keys is a must.

For private use

In a private setting, you generally do not need a key safe for several hundred keys, but here, too, a number of keys may accumulate, such as for the cellar, the garden shed, the bicycle shed, various vehicles, and much more.

The Siwa and Juno series are excellently suited for home use.

• The Siwa models, such as the Siwa 70, comply with security level S2 according to EN 14450 and are therefore also insurable: privately up to 20,000 euros, commercially up to 2,500 euros. The small key safe has 70 hooks on 7 hook rails, while the large Siwa 510 model has room for 510 keys.
• The Juno series has been certified according to EN 14450 and categorized in security level S1. Security level 1 according to EN 14450 means that the key safe can be insured privately for up to 5,000 euros, but not commercially. The series offers space for 70 to 1,080 keys. The Juno 100 is an excellent all-rounder for private use.

For people who frequently forget their keys, an outdoor key safe with a code can be a worthwhile investment: an electronic key safe offers additional comfort and security here. This way, you always have your keys at hand. Modern electronic key safes often feature additional features such as an emergency opening in case of a power failure or an alarm function in case of unauthorized access.
