From 300kg: Certified safes at Bremer Tresore

Security safes are certified according to the European standard 1143-1. During this process, the safe is tested for its resistance. Depending on the duration and the tools used, the safe is classified into one of 6 possible security levels. These security levels serve as the basis for insurance compensation limits. In addition, some insurers require certification from the VdS (German Insurance Association). Furthermore, in the commercial sector, a minimum weight of 300kg is often required. For this reason, Bremer Tresor has expanded its Fortuna, Brami, and Kronos series to include safes weighing 300kg and more.

Basics

Requirements

The classification of a business safe according to a VdS class under EN 1143-1 is the basis for a guaranteed level of resistance. The extension of the 300kg weight requirement serves to prevent it from being carried away. This method is preferred by burglars. Safes are not impenetrable, but their job is to make a break-in take as long and be as loud as possible. Therefore, it is more convenient for burglars to steal the safe and crack it in a quiet location.
To counteract this, there are 2 levers:

  • Choose a heavy safe (min. 300kg)
  • Anchor the safe

At many installation sites, a sufficiently solid floor surface cannot be guaranteed. In these locations, it is possible to have the safe models of the Fortuna, Brami, and Kronos series equipped with a rear wall hole.
For insurance in the private sector, a safe from 200kg is often sufficient to meet insurance specifications.

Fire protection

Fire protection

The Fortuna, Brami, and Kronos series can be upgraded with fire protection. The insulation layers are reinforced and the seals are replaced with fireproof intumescent seals. This enables the safe to withstand flames and, above all, the heat of a fire. The internal temperature does not increase by more than 150°C. This guarantees that paper does not turn to ash due to the heat. Read more about fire protection certifications and fire tests under Fire protection classes.

Not directly. The insurance industry's guide values depend on the resistance grade. Weight primarily determines whether anchoring is required.

From this size upwards, we inspect the floor and substrate beforehand. The floor load capacity and proximity to a load-bearing wall are decisive.
