High-quality safes according to certifications
In principle, all security safes are subjected to burglary attempts by specialized testing institutes and certified accordingly. Modern classification is based on resistance grades from N/0 to 5 in accordance with EN 1143-1. Classification according to safety levels S1 and S2 corresponds to EN 14450 and means that basic protection is provided.
View the safes sorted by certification here.
In connection with safety levels and certifications, besides burglary protection, fire resistance and other legal requirements are also decisive.
In particular, various insurance companies require certain minimum standards depending on the insured sum. For private use, a safe with safety level S1 or S2 according to EN 14450 is often sufficient. For commercial use or higher values, however, a safe with a resistance grade according to EN 1143-1 is required.
Depending on the federal state and the type of storage—for example, when storing weapons in accordance with § 36 of the German Weapons Act (WaffG) or when storing sensitive documents and data carriers—additional legal requirements apply. These include:
- Minimum resistance grades
- Certified lock classes
- Requirements regarding the anchoring of the safe
For the secure and legally compliant storage of valuables, weapons, medication, and other relevant items, professional anchoring of a safe is essential. According to applicable standards, especially for safes weighing less than 1,000 kg, anchoring is mandatory. This is the only way to prevent the entire safe from being stolen.
Bremer Tresor offers a wide range of safes that meet all standards and thus ensure legally compliant storage.

Fireproof safe for paper and data carriers
A fireproof safe is tested and certified according to the EN 1047 or EN 15659 standards. Here, the flammability of the cabinet itself is tested, as well as the overall heat development inside the safe.
Fireproof safes correspond to a specific fire protection class. The fire protection levels S60P, 120P, and LFS30P refer to the storage of paper. For data carriers that are destroyed even at low temperatures, the protection levels S60DIS and S120DIS are relevant.
Safes with fire protection levels S60P and S120P are tested at over 1000 °C and subjected to a drop test. This simulates the collapse of a floor during a fire. The LFS30P level is tested at just over 800 °C. Certification according to LFS30P or S60P and 120P therefore means that paper will not turn to ash. Certification according to S60DIS and S120DIS ensures that data carriers are not destroyed.
Burglary- and fireproof safe as combination protection
A burglary- and fireproof safe offers the highest level of security for documents, valuables, and cash. The safes feature a tested fire protection class as well as a certified safety level or a tested resistance grade. Accordingly, they are also suitable for the storage of paper and can also be insured for a considerable sum. Such combination solutions are excellent for commercial and private use.
Safe for the home: furniture, wall, and floor
In the private sphere, the storage of valuables often revolves around cash, jewelry, and important documents like insurance policies and certificates, etc. Especially in one's own home, there are things worth protecting that require a safe.
It can fulfill different purposes or take on various forms. The following types of safes have proven themselves for use in private areas:
These are integrated into furniture and thus count among the hidden models that cannot simply be carried away.
These are solid cabinets that are either very heavy or firmly anchored. These models require a relatively large amount of space.
If you want to buy a wall safe, it must be integrated into the masonry. This way, this type of safe can never simply be carried away.
If you live in your own property, a safe can be installed in the floor. Floor safes also count among the hidden models and ensure secure storage.
Security safe as protection against burglaries
In a security safe, you have space for various valuables such as jewelry and cash. Security safes are tested by public testing bodies such as the VDS and ECB-S and then certified according to the EN 1143-1 standard. The resistance grades from N/0 to 5 specify the sum for which the security safes can be insured.
At Bremer Tresor, you can get security safes with a combination lock (also with a backup key), double-bit lock, or Kaba Mauer lock. Each of these lock types has various advantages and features:
The combination lock allows opening via an individually defined numeric combination. This eliminates the need for a physical key, so you don't have to worry about losing an important key.
The double-bit lock is particularly robust and reliable. It requires a specially shaped key that is difficult to copy. The advantage of this lock type is the simple operation without entering a code.
These high-security locks are characterized by high precision and protection against tampering attempts. They are frequently used for particularly demanding security requirements.
Small safe for more flexibility
A small safe is the ideal way to securely store cash, jewelry, passports, or other important or valuable items. Often referred to as "mini-safes," these safes are in no way inferior to larger models in terms of resistance. Fire protection can also be ensured. Furthermore, they can be positioned in a space-saving and flexible manner.
One disadvantage arises from the aforementioned flexibility, as these small safes are accordingly easy to carry away. A solid anchoring should be provided, as well as a discreet location, such as inside a cabinet or in the basement.
Large safes: heavy and stable
A large safe is installed in commercial settings and perhaps also at home if you need plenty of space for sensitive documents, data carriers, and valuables. Folders full of documents subject to retention requirements need several shelves, and data carriers need fire protection according to S60P, which prevents them from being completely destroyed in a fire.
To keep documents secure and store data carriers in a GDPR-compliant manner, large safes are excellent.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
The deciding factor for a safe is testing and corresponding certification according to EN 1143-1. Models without fire protection have a fire-retardant effect thanks to their steel material, but they become extremely hot, causing paper to turn to ash. A fireproof version with certification according to LFS 30 P or LFS 60 P also protects documents from destruction by fire.
Tested and EN 1143-1 certified models protect your documents, cash, and jewelry from theft, as they have been subjected to a break-in test. A hidden safe such as a wall safe or floor safe is ideal, as it protects against prying eyes and cannot be easily carried away. A solid anchoring should be provided.
A safe is best stored where it is exposed to as few eyes as possible. A room (e.g., the basement or a hidden nook) that only the residents enter and exit is well suited.
Choosing the right safe depends on various factors. Important considerations include the type and value of the items to be stored, the required security level, any fire protection requirements, as well as the planned installation location and the possibility of anchoring. Professional advice from our team will help you find the right safe for your requirements. Important questions you should ask yourself when choosing your safe are, for example: 1. What valuables are to be protected? 2. What security level is needed? 3. Which locking mechanism is preferred?
