The eastern Ruhr area has a high density of shooting clubs, as well as hunters in the Sauerland and Münsterland regions. Consequently, inquiries from Dortmund regarding firearm storage are frequent, and the legal situation there is clearly regulated.
Since the amendment of the Weapons Act, the following applies to newly purchased safes: handguns must be stored in at least security level 0 according to EN 1143-1, and long guns in at least security level 1. Ammunition must be stored separately from the firearms; a separate, lockable compartment is sufficient for this purpose. Old safes compliant with the previous standard may continue to be used under certain conditions, but they may not be newly purchased. Installation site, anchoring, and notification
A gun safe weighing under 1,000 kilograms must be anchored, usually to the floor or the rear wall. We set the anchors from the inside, so nothing remains visible on the outside. The authorities may inspect your storage. For this, have the certification label on the inside of the door and proof of anchoring ready. How the registration process works is explained in the guide Registering a gun safe.
Delivery to Dortmund and the Ruhr area
It is about 230 kilometers from Bremen to the eastern Ruhr area, a route we travel regularly with our own transport department. Standard delivery is curbside, but upon request, we can bring the safe to the installation site, carry it up stairs, and anchor it there. An old safe can be taken away during the same appointment.
